Mahopac's opening schedule included games against two sectional champions (Yorktown and Nanuet), three sectional finalists (Suffern, Greeley and Pearl River), and solid teams from around the state (7-1 Kingston and Long Island's Lindenhurst).
So despite expectations that Mahopac could win its first-ever sectional title in a depleted Class A, perhaps it's not surprising that the Indians started 1-5. But the team - which features four college-bound players in goalie Gina Molfetta, attackers Mackenzy Ryan and Jillian Maloney and defender Caitlin Karner - is coming on strong now, and it makes a big jump in this week's rankings.

1. Yorktown (9-0): The closest anyone has come to beating Yorktown was Nanuet, which lost 17-14. And even that game wasn't that close - it was 16-7 midway through the second half.
2. Mahopac (4-5): After using strong second halves to beat North Rockland and Bronxville, the Indians knocked off defending Class A champion Lakeland/Panas 10-9 on Tuesday.
3. Lakeland/Panas (4-3-2): After a 3-1 start, the 
4. Scarsdale (2-2-3): The Raiders crushed defending NYSAIS champion Hackley 17-6 over the weekend, but then lost to previously winless Bronxville by one on Tuesday.
5. Rye (3-1-2): Rye has been on both ends of ties this season. They scored with 20 seconds left to tie Pearl River, but then allowed a goal with 15 seconds left to Mamaroneck on Monday.
